View one of the largest open cuts of gold mining in the southern hemisphere at the time of closure. Mined for over one hundred years, the Mount Morgan Mine produced 225,000 kilos of gold, 50,000 kilos of silver and 360,000 tonnes of copper. Did you know this mine for the first 45 years was underground tunneling and primitive quarrying went on until a huge fire gutted the underground workings. This forced the closure of the original company and allowed a new system to take charge of spiral open cut hard rock mining.

Delve into the Jurassic world, discovering the wonders of one of the largest man made caverns in Australia. Excavated by Mount Morgan Miners in the late 1800's, the clay from the caverns made fire bricks for the mine's furnaces. Unknown to early miners, the roof of the caverns today reveal up to 300 early Jurassic dinosaur footprints, went on unnoticed until the early 1950's, thirty years after the caves were abandoned . The caverns are also home for up to seven species of bats, including the bent wing bats. A truly unique experience where heritage meets paleontology.
